Description

The Blue Leg Poso Shrimp, Caridina caerulea, is endemic to Lake Poso on the island of Sulawesi. It was initially exported for the trade under the incorrect name Caridina ensifera, but was later scientifically identified as C. caerulea.

As in this shrimp's natural habitat, the aquarium water should be clean and have a low microbial load. Grazing surfaces rich in biofilm are recommended, such as a relatively large airlift-driven Hamburg mat filter.

Caridina caerulea is said to be one of the Sulawesi shrimp species that are relatively easy to keep and breed.

However, it is recommended to use water with a very low mineral content (reverse-osmosis water or rainwater), remineralize it with special mineral salts (sodium-free), and filter it through activated carbon before use. Its high temperature requirements (28 to 30 °C according to www.crustahunter.com) must be taken into account.

The minimum tank volume is 20 l, and at least 10 specimens should be kept together. Keeping them in a species-only tank is strongly recommended; they can be kept with snails of the genus Tylomelania.
