Description

The Bumblebee shrimp inhabits clean, cool streams in southern China. It probably belongs to the species Caridina breviata.

This dwarf shrimp is often confused with the black-and-white Bee shrimp. However, it lacks certain orange-coloured elements of the Bee shrimp's body pattern.

How breeding happens

Once the Bumblebee shrimp has settled in well and feels comfortable, offspring may be produced every 4–6 weeks. Cool, slightly acidic water (pH around 6.5) is recommended. Approximately 30–35 small, fully developed juveniles hatch from the eggs carried on the females' swimmerets. They like to stay among fine-leaved plants and mosses, where they find food during their first few weeks.
