Description
Amblystegium serpens, also known as creeping feather-moss, is found on all northern continents and in South America, Australia, and New Zealand. It thrives in nutrient-rich environments with a basic pH, moderate to high moisture levels, and sun to shade, typically growing on soil, under trees and bushes, on dead wood, bark, and rocks. This small moss often coexists with other common species like Brachythecium rutabulum. The emersed form of A. serpens grows in dense clusters of decumbent to ascending plantlets with leaves up to 1mm long, which are lanceolate with an acuminate tip and midrib reaching the middle or slightly above the leaf.
