Anubias barteri var. nana 'Petite' and 'Bonsai' are two names for the smallest Anubias variety in trade. It originates from Cameroon or Singapore, depending on the source. This variety has a slower growth rate and smaller size compared to its ancestral form, Anubias barteri var. nana. The leaf blade may grow up to 3 cm long, but it remains smaller than its ancestor. 'Petite' is hardy and can be grown in low-light conditions (0.25 watts per liter) or strong light (1 watt per liter). It requires carbon dioxide fertilization and a nutrient-rich substrate for optimal growth. Old leaves should be removed regularly. This variety does not flower in aquariums, but high phosphate concentrations may induce flowering. It can be propagated by cutting the rhizome into two or more pieces. This plant is suitable for accentuating the mid-ground of nano or small aquascapes and can be attached to rocks or driftwood using a nylon thread.
