Description

Bacopa australis is a popular choice for freshwater aquariums due to its ease of care and adaptability. It originates from South America and was scientifically described only after 2001. The plant grows with soft, thin leaves and a loose habit, differing from other Bacopa species. It thrives in good light intensities, developing a creeping habit, but also grows well under medium light conditions with an upright growth pattern. Fertilization is not required, but adding macro- and micronutrients and CO2 can promote better growth and coloration. The plant tolerates water temperatures ranging from 20°C to 32°C and can be propagated by cuttings. It should be trimmed regularly to maintain a balanced growth habit. Bacopa australis is suitable for placement in the fore-, mid-, or background of tanks, where it contrasts well with other plants. Its emersed form grows as a dense carpet under strong light and produces pale blue flowers.
