Description

Bolbitis heteroclita "difformis" is a dwarf form of the tropical Asian fern Bolbitis heteroclita, originally described as Edanyoa difformis and native to the Philippine island Negros. It has been cultivated in horticulture for a long time but was recently discovered as an aquarium plant. The species grows best as a terrestrial plant on moderately moist soil, forming a low carpet up to 7 cm high with creeping rhizomes. Its delicate pinnate leaves resemble parsley. When cultivated submersed, the fern grows extremely slowly and forms smaller, coarser leaves than the land form.
