Description

Cabomba caroliniana var. caroliniana, also known as green Cabomba, is a popular aquarium plant native to lakes, ponds, and rivers in the Americas, typically found in low-pH environments. It can spread rapidly, considered an invasive species in some countries like Australia. When cultivated optimally, its stalks can grow up to the surface of large aquariums, forming ovate or diamond-shaped floating leaves and white flowers. However, high temperatures or insufficient light may cause weak growth and etiolation. This plant requires sufficient light, with pH and water hardness playing a minimal role in its growth. Micronutrients can enhance its robustness. Limiting nitrate supply affects the green hue, which darkens to brown when nitrate levels are low, especially under intense lighting. CO2 supplementation is not necessary but may further boost growth. Propagation occurs like other stem plants, with caution that lower cut stem parts may require time to develop lateral shoots.
