Description

Callicostella prabaktiana is a creeping moss native to the Asian tropics, where it grows on wet rocks and shaded riverbanks. It can be distinguished from Callicostella papillata by the absence of papillae on its leaf cells and a less serrated leaf margin in the tip area. The species has flat-leafed, irregularly ramified shoots with a thick double midrib reaching almost to the leaf tip, roundish, thick-walled leaf cells, and tongue-shaped shortly acute leaves. Callicostella prabaktiana is not well-known as an aquarium moss yet. It can be grown in water, but it grows slowly. This moss forms a dense mat when attached to rocks or driftwood.
