Description
Callitriche is a genus of aquatic and bog plants found in temperate zones of the northern hemisphere. Many species exist in Europe, but most are difficult to identify. Callitriche terrestris is a North-American species discovered by hobbyists for aquaristic purposes. It was initially mistaken as Elatine americana (a synonym of Elatine triandra). Unlike other Callitriche species, C. terrestris often grows on moist ground away from waterbodies. The emersed form has spatulate leaves 3-4 mm long, while submerged growth produces narrow-lineal leaves significantly longer.
