Description

The water trumpet, Cryptocoryne purpurea, was first discovered in Kota Tinggi, western Malaysia, and was described by H.N. Ridley, director of the Botanical Garden Singapore, in 1902. It is a hybrid of C. cordata var. cordata and C. griffithii, identified as such in 1982 by Niels Jacobsen.
