Description

Cryptocoryne aponogetifolia is a large aquatic plant that can grow over one meter in length. It has long-stalked leaves that are narrow-lanceolate to lineal and distinctly bullous. The species name refers to its resemblance to some Aponogeton species. This plant is native to the extreme south-east of Luzon, Philippines, and was previously found on Panay and Negros islands. Cryptocoryne aponogetifolia grows in fast-flowing rivers and rivulets, forming dense submersed populations that only dry out when the water level is low. As an aquarium plant, it has been popular for many years, used in public show aquaria since the 1960s.
