Description

Cryptocoryne beckettii is a triploid variant that was initially described as Cryptocoryne petchii. This plant belongs to the C. wendtii group and has been widely used in aquaristics for over 60 years. It is easy to cultivate and exhibits typical characteristics of Sri Lankan Cryptocorynes. The plant adapts well to both soft and hard water, and light conditions are relatively unimportant, although it grows better under more intense lighting. The brown-green rosettes that form shortly after planting spread quickly and develop dense bushes. Nutrient-rich substrates enhance growth, and the plant responds well to ample fertilization and CO2 supplementation. However, it can also grow satisfactorily without these components. This species can be cultivated emersed in moist, nutrient-rich substrates, where it may produce flowers. When grown emersed, daily watering is recommended. Propagation is not difficult, as the plant forms runners on its rhizome that can be cut off and replanted.
