Description

Cryptocoryne cordata var. blassii originates from swamplands in southern Thailand, Malaysia, and Borneo. It is a popular variety of C. cordata and easy to cultivate. This plant is an undemanding slow grower that thrives under low to medium light (0.25-0.5 watts per liter) as its natural habitat is shaded rivers. CO2 fertilization may have a positive effect on growth, but it does not require additional CO2. It can tolerate hard water well and requires a nutrient-rich substrate to reach its full height. Emersed cultivation is easy, with low light and occasional spraying for increased humidity. A nutrient-rich substrate is also necessary when cultivated above the waterline. In an aquarium, this plant can grow up to 20 cm tall in a nutrient-rich substrate. Remove yellowish or decomposing leaves with scissors. Its unique leaf form and greenish-red color make it suitable for mid-ground aquarium placement.
