Description

Cryptocoryne x willisii is a group of hybrid plants that likely originated from Cryptocoryne parva and related species found in Sri Lanka's central highlands around Kandy city, where they grow on river banks. The leaves are oblong-ovate to narrow-lanceolate, with a medium green color, similar to Cryptocoryne parva but larger (up to 25 cm emersed and 20 cm submersed). The spathe's blade is rough and variably colored, often dark purple or reddish brown. One variety, Cryptocoryne lucens, is commonly found in aquariums and has narrow, lanceolate leaves when submerged. It reproduces through underground runners and offshoots, which can be cut off for propagation. The plant is easy to cultivate and grows faster than other Cryptocorynes.
