Description
Didiplis diandra (De Candolle) Wood, also known as Peplis diandra, originates from eastern USA and can be found on pond edges, lakes, and slow-flowing waterbodies. It forms small pinkish pods in its axils when kept under optimal conditions. The plant has fine foliage that makes it a popular aquarium plant. To cultivate it well, ensure sufficient light (0.6-1 watt per litre) as lower parts may die off without adequate light. Under intense light, the plant needs more iron and micronutrients. Iron deficiency can cause faded, pale plants. CO2 fertilization promotes faster growth, but is not essential. Regularly add nitrate, phosphate, potassium, iron, and micronutrients to support growth. Under optimal conditions and high light, Didiplis diandra displays orange to red hues; otherwise, it remains green. This stem plant grows up to the water surface, producing lateral shoots and dense foliage. Cutting off top shoots promotes bushy growth and new lateral shoots. Propagate by cutting off top and lateral shoots and replanting into the substrate.
