Description

Drepanocladus aduncus is an aquatic moss that grows worldwide, commonly found in Central Europe. It thrives in shallower water, forming dark green cushions with curved shoots reaching above the waterline. Submersed shoots have an upright growth habit and can ramify readily under bright light or near the surface. In deeper water or low light conditions, the foliage is less dense. This moss resembles "Stringy Moss" but has a distinct midrib on its leaves. It can be used in aquariums with cold- and warmwater tanks, especially those with native plants, as it is undemanding and fast-growing. Drepanocladus aduncus can be attached to rocks or driftwood using fishing line, but will not attach itself to the ground naturally. Under strong lighting, it produces many oxygen bubbles and may start floating if not secured properly.
