Description

Echinodorus 'Indian Red' is a small variety of Echinodorus, reaching 10-20 cm in height. It was bred by Hans Barth in Germany through crossbreeding "Echinodorus aschersonianus" and Echinodorus uruguayensis "horemanii rot", introduced to the market in 1998. Its leaves are narrowly elliptic, growing up to 20 cm long and 4 cm wide when submerged. Under intense light, young leaves display a reddish-brown to dark red coloration, later transitioning to green. This variety is relatively easy to cultivate in an aquarium but is infrequently traded due to susceptibility to the rust fungus Cercospora echinodori in emersed cultivation.
