Description

Echinodorus muricatus (or "E. muricatus") is not a true species of Echinodorus, but rather belongs to the complex of E. cordifolius or may be a hybrid. It is a fast-growing plant that forms a large, wide leaf rosette in the aquarium with submersed leaves that are longish-ovate to lanceolate and medium green in color, slightly transparent like some varieties of Echinodorus uruguayensis. The leaf stalks are typically shorter than the blade. This plant grows well both emersed and submerged. Emersed leaves are ovate with an obtuse tip and a round to slightly heart-shaped base, with light-colored veins on the upper side. Long, low-lying flower stalks may develop, carrying adventitious plants that make propagation easy. Flowers are relatively large-sized with long stalklets and sometimes truncate petals.
