Fittonia verschaffeltii

Fittonia verschaffeltii

Family: Acanthaceae
Genus: Fittonia

Description

Fittonia verschaffeltii is a terrestrial plant from the South American tropics, growing relatively low. It has different varieties in cultivation, with red-veined leaves being one common variety. This species is not suitable for aquariums, as it dies off and rots quickly underwater. Instead, it thrives on moist, warm surfaces like terraria or bottle gardens, where the humus-rich, loose, slightly moist substrate allows its shallow root system to grow. Normal potting soil is suitable for this plant.
