Fittonia verschaffeltii 'Argyroneura' (F. "argyronauta")

Fittonia verschaffeltii

Family: Acanthaceae
Genus: Fittonia

Description

Fittonia verschaffeltii 'Argyroneura' is often mislabeled as "Fittonia argyronauta" in aquarium trade. It features silvery white leaf veins. This plant is not suitable for aquatic environments, as it will eventually die and rot when submerged. Additionally, it does not tolerate waterlogged soil. As a low-growing ground covering plant from the South-American tropics, Fittonia verschaffeltii 'Argyroneura' is better suited for warm terrariums with high humidity, such as bottle gardens. Normal potting soil is an acceptable substrate, and shallow roots mean it doesn't require a thick layer of substrate.
