Fontinalis antipyretica, or willow moss, is widely distributed across the northern hemisphere and can be found in various flowing and stagnant water bodies. This species exhibits variability in appearance depending on its growth conditions, with some forms retaining distinct differences even when cultivated under the same conditions. Several varieties have been described, including F. antipyretica var. gigantea.
