Description

Glossostigma elatinoides is a low-growing aquarium plant with creeping runners and spatula-like leaves that can grow both emersed and submersed in its native habitats in Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand. It has opposing leaves (two per node) and a distinct midrib, distinguishing it from Marsilea species which have alternate leaves (one per node). G. elatinoides is relatively easy to cultivate under sufficient light (at least 0.5 watts per litre), CO2, nitrate (5 mg/l or above), phosphate (0.5 mg/l or above), and iron with micronutrients. Under good growth conditions, it forms runners quickly and can cover the entire ground after a short time. If grown under insufficient light, it tends to grow long.
