Description

Helanthium bolivianum, previously known as Echinodorus latifolius, belongs to the group Helanthium bolivianum (= Echinodorus bolivianus). It may also be found under other names such as "Echinodorus magdalenensis", but these could refer to other varieties of H. bolivianum. As a submersed plant, it is difficult to distinguish from others in the same group. Its leaf rosettes have a stiffer appearance than those of Helanthium bolivianum "quadricostatus". The emersed form has narrowly lanceolate leaf blades with an acute tip, similar to those of Helanthium tenellum and H. bolivianum "angustifolius". The petals of its flowers slope downwards.
