Hygrophila corymbosa "angustifolia" is a variety of H. corymbosa native to South-East Asia. It grows both emersed and submersed in slow- to fast-flowing waters. In aquaristics, it is less common than other varieties. The plant has opposite lanceaolate leaves with a dark to blueish green color on emersed shoots, which are 10 cm long and 2 cm wide, hairy, and have a pungent smell when touched. Branching flower stalks produce light blue/violet flowers. Submersed plants have narrower and longer leaves than the emersed form (up to 20 cm long and 1 cm wide), without hairs. The plant grows well in sufficient light and with ample CO2, but requires strong lights with nitrate, phosphate, potassium, and trace elements. It is an ideal indicator for nutrient deficiencies. Good growth and light intensity induce impressive foliage. Propagation is easy by cutting off lateral shoots or the top shoot. Trimming promotes bushy growth. The plant can be grown emersed above the water surface, producing blue/violet flowers on branching flower stalks.
