Description

Hygrophila polysperma 'Ceylon' has been cultivated since 1977 under the name H. polysperma 'red'. It originates from Sri Lanka and is sold by Tropica, Dennerle, and other aquatic nurseries. This variety grows rapidly without special requirements, tolerating low-light conditions and no CO2 addition. Iron-sufficient environments can produce coppery-hued leaves. Propagation is straightforward due to its numerous lateral shoots and high growth rate. Regular pruning of lateral or top shoots can help control the plant's size. As it grows quickly, monitor nutrient levels and adjust fertilization accordingly. H. polysperma "Ceylon" also thrives in emersed form with sufficient water and nutrients. Its rapid growth and tendency to grow spindly require some maintenance effort to maintain its appearance.
