Lilaeopsis attenuata is a well-known name in the aquarium hobby, although it has been incorrectly applied to Lilaeopsis brasiliensis and Lilaeopsis carolinensis. The true Lilaeopsis attenuata, native to South America, has not yet been cultivated as an aquarium plant and is currently unavailable in the trade.
