Limnophila barteri, also known as Guinea Broad-Leaf, is a tropical plant native to Africa, found from Senegal in the west to Tanzania and Zambia in East Africa. It has pinnately lobed leaves that grow on the stem in whorls, with a light green color and a shape reminiscent of celery leaves. The leaves are typically 1-2 cm long and have 3-5 pairs of lobes. They can become finer when grown under full sun. This plant is suitable for mid-ground or foreground placement in an aquarium, as it grows bushy and can be trimmed to form contoured hills. It requires a good macronutrient supply to thrive, and may exhibit symptoms such as transparent spots on the leaves or decomposing leaves if the nutrient levels are insufficient. Limnophila barteri also prefers well-lit conditions with moderate water flow and adequate CO2 and iron levels. When grown emersed, it produces hirsute sprouts with ovate leaves and inconspicuous flowers that appear in the leaf axils, followed by fruit capsules containing tiny black seeds.
