Description

Limnophila sessiliflora is an undemanding plant from South-East Asia, often sold as "Asian marshweed" or "Ambulia". It thrives in stagnant waters and riverbanks. In aquarium cultivation, it's a common species with robust growth, adaptable to various conditions (pH 5.5-8, temperature 22-28°C). Its low light requirements make it appealing, similar to Cabomba species. Given sufficient light (0.5 watts per litre) and CO2 injection, L. sessiliflora grows compactly and attractively. Balanced micronutrient fertilization and iron supplementation promote healthy growth, while excess light and nutrients can lead to reddish coloration on shoot tips. Trim the plant like a stem plant, propagating by cutting off top shoots and replanting them in substrate. Regular trimming is necessary due to rapid growth. L. sessiliflora forms flowers rarely in aquariums but produces purple flowers when cultivated emersed. Its compact growth under low light intensities makes maintenance easier.
