Description
Ludwigia brevipes originates from southeastern USA, specifically in boggy areas along the Atlantic coast of Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. It has narrow leaves and can be mistaken for Ludwigia arcuata when not in flower. In its emersed form, it can be distinguished by smaller petals and hairless stems compared to L. arcuata. For optimal growth, provide sufficient light (0.5 watts per liter or above) and consider adding micro- and macronutrients, especially with CO2 injection. Low nitrate levels with high phosphate readings may cause reddish-orange coloration on shoot tips. Emersed cultivation is possible with sufficient light. Trimming the plant will promote new lateral shoots, giving it a bushy appearance. Propagate by cutting off lateral shoots or shoot tips and replanting in the substrate. This plant is most effective when planted in groups in the foreground or middle ground, accompanied by species like Micranthemum umbrosum and Bacopa australis that highlight its reddish leaves.
