Ludwigia palustris is a widely distributed plant found in boggy habitats worldwide, except for Australasia where it was introduced. It's considered critically endangered in Germany according to the 1996 Red List. This species can grow in shallow ponds and slow-flowing waters, both submersed and emersed, with a creeping habit. It requires plenty of light to thrive, and responds well to NO3 and PO4 additions, but these are not essential. Ludwigia palustris grows robustly and colorfully when CO2 injection and micronutrient fertilization are applied. It's adaptable to different temperatures and does well in warmer water. This plant develops almost horizontal growth habits with lots of light and nutrient-rich substrate, forming roots and lateral shoots. In emersed cultivation, it produces petal-less flowers with green calyx tips and yellow stamina. The plant can be identified by its longer leaf stalks compared to Ludwigia repens. Propagation involves cutting off lateral or top shoots and replanting them in the substrate. After removing the top shoot, the remaining stem produces many lateral shoots. This species has many color varieties, including a reddish form that's decorative and can be used as an eyecatcher in the aquarium.
