Description

Ludwigia "Rubin" is a dark red plant that was introduced by Tropica under the name Ludwigia repens 'Rubin' and also known as Ludwigia sp. "wine red". Research has shown it to be related to L. glandulosa, possibly a hybrid. The plant's leaves are similar in shape to those of L. repens, but have opposite and alternate arrangements at irregular intervals. It requires moderate to high lighting (0.5 watts per litre or more) and iron supplementation to achieve its characteristic deep red color. Ludwigia "Rubin" produces many roots on its nodes, which can be removed without issue. The plant is slightly sensitive during transport, but recovers well in good conditions. Propagation is easy through lateral shoots that can be cut off and replanted. This dark red plant makes a striking addition to any aquarium layout, particularly when grouped with green plants or paired with Microsorum pteropus "Narrow Leaf" or Hygrophila balsamica.
