Description

Myriophyllum tuberculatum inhabits slow-flowing and stagnant waters in Asian tropical regions. In Europe, it is readily available in trade, while in the US, it has limited distribution. This species requires intensive light (at least 0.8 watts per liter) and CO2 injection for cultivation. Nitrates and phosphates should be maintained at optimal levels (5-15 mg/l and 1-2 mg/l, respectively). Iron and trace nutrients are essential for healthy growth, as the plant can become stunted without them. Under favorable conditions, the leaf whorls can grow up to 10 cm in diameter and attain a rusty red color. The plant grows quickly to the water surface, producing lateral shoots and developing a bushy habit. It is best propagated by cutting off a lateral shoot and replanting it into the substrate.
