Description

Najas sp. "Roraima" is a still unidentified aquatic plant from Roraima, Brazil. Its leaves are rigid and curved with serrated edges. The stems branch readily and the plant is not as brittle or invasive as Najas guadalupensis. The compact growth and dark brown leaf serrations create a decorative pattern on light green to reddish-brown leaves. Under intense light, shoot tips may take on a wine-red hue. This species does not produce many roots like others in the genus. It can thrive floating just below the water surface or planted into the ground, and even grows well in crevices of rocks or driftwood.
