Ottelia mesenterium
Ottélia mesentérium
Family: Hydrocharitaceae
Genus: Ottelia
Description
Ottelia mesenterium is an aquatic plant endemic to Sulawesi, Indonesia, and is found only in Lakes Matano, Towuti, and Mahalona, which are part of the Malili Lake System. Its undulate leaves make it a decorative addition to aquariums. It was first introduced to Europe (Italy) in 1974, but has been difficult to cultivate due to unknown factors. The plant is highly specialized and adapted to the conditions of its native lakes, making it unsuitable for aquarium use.
