Description

Persicaria hydropiperoides (Polygonum hydropiperoides) is a native North, Central, and South American knotweed that thrives on stagnant waterbodies, often growing partially submerged. Its straight upright inflorescence and tiny white flowers make it easily identifiable. This variable species can be obtained by collecting it in the wild or from hobbyists in North America, but is not commonly found in Europe as an aquarium plant. P. hydropiperoides has a subtle beauty despite its less striking green color compared to related species. It grows best under strong lights and adequate nutrients, developing undulate leaves with a lively appearance. The internodes are relatively short, maintaining the plant's upright growth habit. This knotweed requires ample space, recommending an aquarium of at least 150 liters. It makes a good background or mid-ground plant, especially when planted densely as a group.
