Description
Pogostemon sp. "E 401", also known as "star rotala, coarse", is an Asian species of aquatic plant imported by Dennerle company. It is a form of Pogostemon that can reach up to 20 cm in diameter when provided with ample nutrients. The submersed leaves are approximately 2-5 mm wide and grow in whorls of 6-11 per stem node. This plant is not demanding regarding light, fertilization, CO2, or substrate, but it is sensitive to nutrient deficiencies. It can indicate a deficiency by fading in color and growing smaller until the shoot tip dies off. With sufficient micronutrients, it can develop beautiful red hues, while excessive macronutrients can cause it to grow large and green. This plant can be propagated through cuttings, which form lateral shoots that can create bushy groups contrasting with wide-leaved stem plants.
