Description

Rotala ramosior is a species native to North America, specifically found in wetlands across large areas, including Ontario. It can grow both emersed and submersed. Although some hobbyists in the USA have successfully cultivated this plant, it is not yet widely traded. A similar-looking plant, Rotala sp. 'Sunset' or Ammannia sp. "Sulawesi", with red submersed leaves, may be a variant of R. ramosior. R. ramosior requires high light levels, preferably from T5 tubes or metal halide lamps, and ample CO2 and iron for optimal growth. The plant can adapt to submersed life easily and can be propagated through lateral shoot cuttings. Its growth habit is attractive and subtle, making it a worthwhile addition to an aquarium as a mid- or background element.
