Description
Schismatoglottis roseospatha is a rheophyte native to Malaysian forests in Borneo (Sarawak) where it grows on riverbanks, tolerating strong currents during high water. It has creeping rhizomes that attach to rocks with roots similar to those of Bucephalandra motleyana and Anubias barteri. This plant is relatively unknown in the aquarium hobby and can only be obtained from fellow hobbyists. The leaves are dark green, slightly shining, narrow oval to lanceolate, with finely undulate margins, tapering to a point, and reddish-brown stalks. The leaf surface has tiny dots that appear silvery under water (possibly stomata). This plant thrives in constant submersed cultivation despite being temporarily underwater in nature. It can be attached to rocks or driftwood using thread or planted into coarse substrates with the rhizome exposed. S. roseospatha is a slow-growing, low-reproducing plant that requires soft water, temperatures between 22-26°C, and good water movement.
