Description

Staurogyne sp. 'Porto Velho' is a popular foreground plant in the USA and Japan, but less commonly cultivated in Europe. It has an attractive, versatile appearance and will likely remain popular for years to come. This plant is identical to Hygrophila sp. 'Roraima', which may have originated from another import. The plant's leaves are narrower and lanceolate with a pointed tip, featuring a greyish-green to purple coloration. Its stems are light brown and hairy underwater, unlike Staurogyne repens which has green and hairless or slightly hirsute stems. S. sp. 'Porto Velho' is a slower grower and more demanding than S. repens, but still requires moderate lighting. It has a creeping habit, covering the ground like ivy, making it an excellent foreground plant. Trimming the plant regularly promotes healthy growth and can be done by removing individual stems or trimming the entire group to encourage faster growth and propagation.
