Description
Utricularia aurea is a large bladderwort that grows submersedly floating under the water surface. Its leaves are finely pinnate and yellowish-green in color, sometimes dark red in nature. The bladder traps remain small (1-2 mm) when kept in an aquarium or may be absent altogether. Flowerstalks 15 to 25 cm long bear 3 to 7 bright yellow flowers that rise above the water surface. This plant is distributed in Asian tropical regions and Australia, where it grows in shallow stagnant waters, including rice paddies. It is an undemanding fast grower suitable for soft to hard water and can be used as a flowing or upright stem plant.
