Description

Watermeals (Wolffia) are the smallest flowering plants, characterized by a simplified, rootless, roundish vegetation body typically less than 1 millimeter in size. Wolffia arrhiza is found in Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, and South America (near Rio de Janeiro), thriving in tropical to temperate climates. In Germany, it is commonly discovered near the rivers Spree, Havel, and Weser, particularly in stagnant waters sheltered from wind, often accompanied by duckweed species like Lemna and Spirodela.
